About the Grapefruit?
The grapefruit is an excellent appetizer and promotes salivary and gastric digestion. The juice of grapefruit is extremely rich in Vitamin C and potassium. It contains an antioxidant called “narigenin” which may act like a lighter fluid in the liver, promoting the organ to burn fat faster. It also contains “lycopene” – a pigment in pink and red grapefruit, which raises levels of a belly-flattening hormone called adiponectin.
How this Diet Work?
The premise of this diet is that grapefruit contains fat-burning properties. But actually it is a very low calorie diet plan (VLCD’s) and such kinds of diets are not a good weight loss solution as one’s stopped the lost weights are bounced back that too double or triple.
Quick Guide of Grapefruit Diet
“The golden rule of this diet is to eat half a grapefruit at every meal either in the form of fruit or else as juice”. The diet should also include unlimited veggies with healthy servings of metabolism-boosting protein, anti-inflammatory grains and hunger-killing natural fats within 800-1000 calories.
Evidence from the famous Scripps Clinic found that nutrients in grapefruit including all of its antioxidants plus loads of the fiber dramatically lower levels of the hormone insulin, helping regular grapefruit eaters loss upto 500 percent more weight than those who skip the fruit!
Grapefruit Diet Menus
One common version of this diet consists of eating four meals per day, with grapefruit included at three of these meals. Other foods allowed on this particular version include as much black coffee as desired; eggs, and meat.
A sample daily meal plan may look like this:
Meal 1: ½ grapefruit + 3 eggs (any style) + 2 slices of any low-fat meat
Meal 2: ½ grapefruit + any type of meat + Salad with any type of dressing.
Meal 3: Same as meal 2 plus coffee
Meal 4: 1 cup of tomato juice or skim milk.
Most of the grapefruit diet plans are very low in calories and fall short on many essential vitamins and minerals. They are also very restrictive in the foods that are allowed. Thus, they are both unhealthy and unrealistic.
The original grapefruit diet is too restrictive in foods, calories, and nutrients, and thus is not recommended for anyone who wants to lose weight in a healthy way.
